Since President Trump was inaugurated on January 20th, he has quickly been making changes to departments and policies. So how will these changes directly impact HVAC contractors? On the day he took office, Trump made an Executive Order called “Unleashing American Energy”. This Executive Order terminates efforts to incentivize renewable energy, including dissolving the Inflation Reduction Act, made under Biden’s administration in 2022. The Inflation Reduction Act provided incentives for consumers to purchase energy-efficient HVAC appliances to help reduce Americans' carbon emissions. Since the “Unleashing American Energy” Executive Order has been made, the U.S. Government will no longer be providing rebates to contractors and consumers. The Executive Order states that these incentives for cleaner and energy-efficient appliances have been, “burdensome and ideologically motivated,” and have “impeded the development of [The United States’] resources . . . and inflicted high energy costs upon our citizens.” This is despite energy-efficient HVAC appliances notably costing less to run. So what does this mean for you? Any prices you may have promised customers could be affected because tax rebates will no longer be given for energy-efficient products. However, it is important to communicate to customers that in the long run, energy-efficient appliances will cost significantly less to operate.
